At Peggy's Necessities we make clothing for the middling sort of person, not rich, not poor: those who made up the vast majority of British people in the late 16th and early 17th centuries.
As most of our customers are involved in the recreation of the Thirty Years' War and the English Civil Wars, we tend to concentrate on this period, 1618 to 1652.
You will see that our clothes are quite plain, and many would look old-fashioned for the 1640's. If you re-enact our Civil War, remember that you would most likely be wearing the same cut of clothes as you did in your twenties - only the rich followed fashion! Consequently we generally use patterns from the period 1580 to 1630 because we believe this is would have been what ordinary people wore.
All of our clothes are hand-finished and made from natural fabrics. We cannot claim that they are "museum quality" because, in order to keep prices reasonable, construction seams are mostly machine-sewn; however, any visible stitching is always done by hand.
We usually carry stocks of our most popular items and sizes. Please have a look at the separate pages for Goodwives and Souldiers where you can see our range and prices. Feel free to get in touch with us for more details.
